Nothing feels better than going on vacation and checking into a nice hotel. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite things to do. But what’s even better is getting discounts for hotel stays and other travel-related expenses. One of the ways that I’ve saved on travel is by signing up for hotel reward programs. One of the programs that I use often is World of Hyatt.
Hyatt’s reward program allows me to receive points for hotel stays and more. But how much are Hyatt points worth? Well, I’ll discuss that in the content below and give you more insight into how World of Hyatt points work and explain how you can use them to your advantage. Stay tuned!

Hyatt points are worth 5 base points per dollar spent. However, the value may increase depending on how you redeem them. There are several tiers within the World of Hyatt program. Here’s a breakdown of the different Hyatt statuses:
Member
The first level of the World of Hyatt program is the member level. You’ll receive 5 base points per $1 spent. As a member, you’ll receive special member rates, free nights, and waived resort fees for award nights.
Discoverist
The next level of the World of Hyatt program is Discoverist. To reach this level, you’ll need 10 qualifying nights or 25,000 base points. As a Discoverist, you’ll receive 5 base points per $1 spent, as well as 10% bonus points on all Hyatt points earned. You’ll also receive free nights, room upgrades, and waived resort fees for award nights.
This level also offers premium internet, bottled water, and late check-out at 2 pm.
Explorist
To reach the Explorist level, you’ll need 30 qualifying nights or 50,000 base points. As an Explorist, you’ll receive 5 base points per $1 spent, as well as a 20% bonus on all Hyatt points earned. You’ll also receive free nights, special member rates, elite check-in, and 72-hr guaranteed availability.

Globalist
The top level of the World of Hyatt program is Globalist. To reach this level, you’ll need 60 qualifying nights or 100,000 base points. As a Globalist, you’ll receive 5 base points per $1 spent, as well as a 30% bonus on all Hyatt points earned. You’ll also receive free nights, special member rates, elite check-in, and 48-hr guaranteed availability.
This level also comes with free parking on reward nights, late check-out at 4 pm, and club access.
A Breakdown of Hyatt’s Points Value
Although Hyatt offers 5 base points per dollar spent, the actual value that you get is a bit lower. To provide a breakdown, I did a small experiment using the Crowne Suite at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. For the dates that I chose, the Crown Suite was $299 per night at the standard rate. The points required for a free night were 13,000. That’s a value of approximately 2.3 cents per Hyatt point.
Keep in mind that point value changes. As you know, hotels change their rates all the time. From what I’ve observed, the point value range for a room at Hyatt can span from 2.2 cents to 2.8 cents on average. Here’s how Hyatt compares to other major hotel chains:
Marriott
I looked up the number of points needed for a King room at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, and there were 40,000 points needed for a free night. The price for the room was $190, depending on the option that you chose. From my observation, the points value range for Marriott is 0.5 to 0.7 cents.
Just keep in mind that the range I provided is subjective. I’ve seen free nights for Marriott hotels require as little as 17,000 points. It all depends on the hotel’s brand and location.
Hilton
The Hilton Atlanta required 50,000 points for a standard King room. The rate was about $208, depending on the rate option that you chose. Upon doing a little digging, I concluded that the points value for Hilton is anywhere from 0.4 to 0.6 cent. Again, this range could change based on the hotel brand location.
Radisson
For the Radisson Atlanta Airport hotel, 67,500 points were needed for a free night in a Premium King room. The standard rate for the room was $177. I’ve seen the Radisson room rates fluctuate drastically, which greatly affects the points value. For the most part, the value of points can range from 0.3 to 0.8 cents.
Overall, I think Hyatt offers the best value when it comes to points per dollar. In comparison to other hotel chains, they definitely give customers more bang for their buck.
Ways to Earn World of Hyatt Points
Stay at Hyatt Hotels
The easiest way to earn World of Hyatt points is by staying at Hyatt hotels. You’ll earn 5 points per $1 spent on eligible room rates. You can also earn points by dining at participating restaurants, using the spa, or booking activities through the hotel.
The good news is, there are over 1,000 Hyatt hotels and resorts around the world. So, you shouldn’t have trouble finding a Hyatt property wherever you’re traveling.
Credit Cards
Another easy way to earn World of Hyatt points is by using a credit card that earns Hyatt points. The World of Hyatt credit card offers 30,000 points after $3,000 within the first 90 days. Not only that, but you’ll receive one complimentary night at a Category 1-4 Hyatt hotel or resort after your card anniversary.
The World of Hyatt business credit card offers 9X the points for Hyatt stays, 2X the points for restaurants, airfare, phone services, and cable. It also provides 2X the points on gym memberships and 1X the point on everything else.
MGM Resorts
Hyatt is partnered with MGM Resorts. So, you can earn World of Hyatt points when staying at MGM resorts including Bellagio, ARIA, Vdara, and more. You’ll earn 5 points per $1 spent on eligible room rates. Plus, you’ll get a credit towards elite status.
Rental Cars
Hyatt has partnerships with Avis. So, you can earn Hyatt points when renting a car from Avis. You’ll earn 500 points per rental, plus a 25% discount on base rates.
Experiences
One of the things that I like about the World of Hyatt program is that you can earn points by booking experiences. For example, you can earn points by going on a wine tour, taking a cooking class, or going on a hot air balloon ride. The experiences vary by location. Furthermore, you’ll get 10 base points for every $1 spent on experiences.
Purchasing Points
If you don’t have enough points for a free night, you can always purchase points. The cost of purchasing points varies depending on how many points you buy. However, you have to buy Hyatt points in 1,000-point increments, and you’re allowed to buy up to 55,000 loyalty points every year.

I love that I can use Points + Cash to book a hotel room even if I don’t have enough points.
