Dining and Food Purchases

Another way to earn Hyatt points is by dining at participating restaurants, cafes, and bars both inside and outside of Hyatt hotels. You can earn five points per dollar spent on food and beverage purchases. This includes room service and in-hotel restaurants.

Spa Services

If you pamper yourself while staying at a Hyatt hotel, you can earn points for those services as well. You will earn five Hyatt points per dollar spent on qualifying spa treatments.

Hyatt Credit Card

If you have a Hyatt credit card, you can get points for every purchase you make. Here’s a breakdown of their cards:

World of Hyatt Credit Card: This credit card is World of Hyatt’s consumer card. It offers 30,000 points once you spend $3,000 within three months of opening your account.

You can also earn another 30,000 bonus points if you spend a total of $15,000 within those first six months. With this card, you’ll receive a complimentary night certificate each year on your cardmember anniversary.

You’ll also get 9 points per dollar spent at Hyatt hotels, 2 points per dollar spent on restaurants, airfare booked directly with the airline, and local transit and commuting, and 1 Hyatt bonus point per dollar spent on everything else. There is a $95 annual fee for this card, which is waived the first year.

World of Hyatt Business Credit Card: The World of Hyatt business credit card is very similar to the consumer version, but with a few key differences. You’ll earn 60,000 points after you spend $5,000 within three months of opening your account. You’ll also receive 9 points per dollar spent at Hyatt hotels, 2 points per dollar spent on restaurants, airfare booked directly with the airline, and gas stations, and 1 Hyatt point per dollar spent on everything else. There is a $199 annual fee for this card.

Hyatt is partnered with MGM Resorts, so you can earn and redeem points at any of their properties. You’ll earn points per dollar spent on room rates, as well as dining, entertainment, and spa services. I always take advantage of this partnership when I visit Vegas. More often than not, I stay at an MGM hotel when I go there. So, it’s a huge benefit knowing that I can use and earn points when I vacation in Las Vegas.

Purchasing Hyatt points is one of the quickest ways that I’ve been able to increase my balance. You can buy points in increments of 1,000, up to 55,000 points per transaction. The cost per point varies. I usually purchase points when there’s a sale going on. Doing so gives me an advantage because I’m able to buy points at a discounted rate, which is much cheaper than booking a hotel stay.

How to Leverage World of Hyatt Points

If you really want to get the most out of your Hyatt points, it’s a good idea to move up through the Hyatt Elite Status membership tiers. Here’s a look at each level:

Membership

The basic Hyatt Elite Status level is the membership level, and it’s the status you’ll achieve just for signing up. With a standard Hyatt membership, you’ll earn 5 points per dollar spent on Hyatt property stays and get access to special room rates. If you accumulate enough points for a free night, Hyatt will waive the resort fees.

Discoverist

Once you reach the level, you’ll receive 10% bonus points on Hyatt property stays, as well as complimentary premium internet access. You’ll also get an American Airlines bonus, late checkout, and complimentary bottled water.

Explorist

If you reach Explorist status, you’ll receive a 20% bonus on Hyatt hotel stays, as well as free reward nights. Hyatt members in this tier get exclusive check-in, late check-out, and 72-hour guaranteed availability.

Globalist

Marriott Rewards is similar to Hilton Honors in that you’ll earn 10 points for every dollar you spend on your room rate. You can earn points with a Marriott Rewards credit card as well. As a Bonvoy member, you can use points for cruises, rental cars, Uber Eats, and more.

Wyndham Rewards

Wyndham Rewards is a bit different from the other hotel programs. With Wyndham, you’ll earn 10 points for every dollar you spend, but you can also earn points by shopping through their online portal. You can redeem your points for free nights, room upgrades, gift cards, and more.

Question: How Many Base Points Do I Need to Level Up Through the World of Hyatt Membership Statuses?

Answer: To reach Discoverist status, you’ll need 25,000 base points or 10 qualifying nights. To achieve the Explorer status, it requires 50,000 base points or 30 qualifying nights. Finally, to make it to Globalist status, you’ll need 100,000 base points or 60 qualifying nights.

Question: Do Hyatt Points Expire?

Answer: Yes. If your account is inactive for 24 months, your points will expire. To keep your account active, all you have to do is earn or redeem points within that 24-month period. You can also purchase points, transfer them to an airline partner, or earn points through MGM.

Answer: Absolutely! You can share your points with friends and family members. You can also gift points to anyone, as long as they’re a member of the World of Hyatt program.
